Career Highlights

Robert Swope has directed, produced, edited, and performed in highly acclaimed entertainment events ranging from live sports and music telecasts, to circus and awards presentations. As a pioneer in Multi-Camera High Definition Television, he has set several world firsts in the production of live and taped events, DVD and the Internet. He was awarded an EMMYâ for Best Live Broadcast in 2008, and eight Stellar Awards between 2005 and 2007.  Swope has been nominated for three EMMYâ Awards, three GRAMMYâ Awards, and over a dozen Stellar Awards in his career. Swope is a current member of The Nashville Chamber of Commerce, The Mayors Music Association Task Force (founding member), The Nashville Association of Talent Directors (Board of Directors & Past President), and The Recording Academy/NARAS and The Television Academy/NATAS. His remarkable versatility has helped transform the entertainment and technology industries.


** An All Beethoven Evening featuring Yo-Yo Ma ** Co-Executive Producer, Producer, Director. This 14 High Definition camera telecast featured the amazing talents of Yo-Yo Ma with the Nashville Symphony / Giancarlo Guerrero conducting. It also included a one hour live pre-show with guest stars and Swope edited historical segments. Nominated for Best Live Broadcast Emmy.

** The Christian Music Awards ** Director, Writer. Live awards program broadcast on the Family Channel (2008), The Gospel Network (2009), and Trinity Broadcasting (2010) featuring artists CeCe Winans, Brian White, Tye Tribbett, Jason Crabb, and Brian Littrell among others.

**GERSHWIN at One Symphony Place ** Co-Executive Producer, Producer, Director. This 20 High Definition camera LIVE telecast on PBS delivered the Nashville Symphony with Giancarlo Guerrero conducting to a regional PBS audience. It is broadcast nationally on PBS in March of 2009. Nominated for Best Live Broadcast, Best Director and Best Audio Emmy’s.

** SMOKIE : LIVE ** Producer, Director. The Grammy winning gospel artist Smokie Norful releases his 3rd project in Spring of 2009. This high definition/5.1 Surround project delivers this amazing artist live from the Cannon Center in Memphis, Tennessee.

** Sacred Journey : The Fisk Jubilee Singers ** Exec Producer, Producer, Director, Music Producer. The Fisk Jubilee Singers brought the joy of God's music to the 600 year old Elmina Castle (known for its slave trade) in Cape Coast, Ghana on the West Coast of Africa in this CD/DVD project released through Sunrise Music Group. The High Definition/5.1 Surround Sound production is the first multi-camera HD production on the West Coast of Africa.

** COGIC Centennial Convocation ** Producer, Director. The 100th Annual Convocation of The Church of God In Christ became the first ever live telecast of that event in 2007. Sunrise produced the event for a 2 1/2 hour WORD Network telecast that became one of the highest rated events in the networks history sending the event to millions around the world.

** Faith Unscripted : Dr. Bobby Jones ** Exec Producer, Producer, Director, Music Producer, editor. Over 70 Gospel Superstars gathered in a restored church, now recording studio, to enjoy the Faith that is Gospel music. This High Definition/5.1 Surround Sound CD/DVD package is released through Sunrise Music Group and features Bobby Jones, Tye Tribbett, Vanessa Bell-Armstrong, Joe Ligon, Darrel Petties, Karen Clark-Sheard, Jarard Woods, Chris Bolton and numerous others. The program is a testament to unscripted production and the truth that Gospel music can be.

** One Symphony Place: a world premiere live from Music City ** Co-Exec Producer, Producer, Director, Music Producer, Editor, Technical Director. The Nashville Symphony christened its new home, The Schermerhorn Symphony Center, in this LIVE 18 camera High Definition telecast on Public Broadcasting. The 96 piece orchestra performed Shostakovitch, Barber and Mahler, and the 2 hour show became the highest rated music show in PBS history. Winner of Best Live Broadcast Emmy… Nominated for Best Live Director and Best Audio Producer.

** Donald Lawrence presents The Tri City Singers FINALE ** Director, Producer, Editor, Music Producer. Multi-Platinum CD/DVD package released through EMI Gospel showcasing Donald Lawrence & The Tri City Singers in their farewell performance at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. This High Definition / 5.1 Surround Sound package features LaShun Pace, Vanessa Bell-Armstrong, Karen Clark-Sheard, Walter Hawkins, Daryl Coley and others.

** Live From The Tabernacle ** Director, Producer, Music Producer, Editor. Multi-camera High Definition DVD featuring Gospel greats Myron Butler, Darwin Hobbs and Darlene McCoy.

** Smokie Norful : Nothing Without You ** Producer, Director, Music Producer, Editor. Multi-camera DVD to accompany the Grammy winning CD Nothing Without You. This platinum DVD features Smokie, with guests, performing his greatest hits in a one night only performance.

** Look Up Sing Out ** Director, Producer, Exec Producer, Music Producer, Editor. Four 60 minute broadcast specials. Featuring The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Karen Clark, Smokie Norful, The Williams Sisters and others. Also released as DVD and CD packages through EMI.

** The Roots Present ** Director, Producer, Exec Producer, Editor. 60 minute MTV-2 broadcast special / 30 minute MTV-1 broadcast special / 90 minute Indemand Pay-Per-View special. Featuring the Roots, Mob Deep and numerous other Hip-hop acts. Also released in DVD and CD through Image Entertainment.

** The Domestic Goddess Hour w/ Roseanne Barr ** Director. Pilot for ABC Family. The Real Roseanne, a 13 week series of the making of Domestic Goddess on ABC.

** Bill Monroe: The Legend Lives On ** Director, Producer, Exec Producer, Music Producer, Editor. 65 minute PBS Pledge Special. A tribute to Bill Monroe featuring Marty Stuart, Charlie Daniels, Ricky Skaggs, Allison Kraus and others. Includes double CD/VHS/DVD packages. Aired Nationally (US) March 2003.

** James Gregory: Beef Stew for the Brain ** Director, Editor. 60 minute comedy special. Airing on The Comedy Channel in North America. Includes CD/VHS package.

** Barnum & Baileys Kaleidoscape ** Director, Producer, Writer, Music Producer, Editor. Two hour Live to tape Broadcast Event Special. Produced for RAI-Italy, airing in over 30 countries worldwide.

** This Night in LA: The Fabulous Thunderbirds ** Co-Executive Producer, Director, Editor. Shot as a TV pilot and the making of a live album (Ed Churney engineering) The Fab T-birds became, on February 16, 2000, the first live streamed Webcast in High Definition widescreen format. DVD/CD.

** Living Legends of Rock & Roll: Itchycoo Park ** Producer, Director, Music Producer, Editor. One of the largest rock festivals of Classic Rock & Roll bands ever held, staged in Manchester, Tennessee in August 1999. Noted for being the first ever live multi-camera image magnification produced in High Definition in the world, Itchycoo Park ‘99 becomes the most extensive library of Heritage Rock & Roll Artists captured in the Hi-Def Television format - over 30 acts.

** The Moffatts: Wild At Heart (Live at The Orpheum Theatre, Vancouver BC.). ** Producer, Director, Music Producer, Editor. The Moffatts, a breakaway young Rock 'n Roll band shot in High Definition Television in July 1999 EMI Electrola GmbH. Recorded as the first multi-camera Hi-Def shoot in all of Canada.

** Living Legends of Gospel ** Director, Producer, Co-Writer, Music Producer, Editor. Four x 1 hour Television specials featuring the Black Gospel Quartets still performing including The Fairfield Four, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Swanee Quintet, The Williams Brothers and others. Aired on BET and being syndicated/distributed worldwide.

** The 1997 Miss South Carolina Pageant ** Director, Co-Producer. Two hour Live regional Network telecast. Winner advanced to Miss America.

** George Winston: Seasons in Concert** Coordinating Producer. Executive Producer Christopher Toyne. Director Stanley Dorfman. 60min./78min. Pledge Special, PBS. Invited guests included Chet Atkins and Keola Beamer.

** The Great Magic of Las Vegas ** Director, Co-Producer, writer, editor. Six hour series for International Broadcast/Family Channel-USA, ZDF-Germany, RTI-Italy, GloboTV-South America, Canal Plus-France, BBC2-England, NHK-Japan, KBS-Korea, additionally aired in 45 countries worldwide. Included 22 magicians and 58 illusions.

** The 1996 Christian Country Music Awards ** Director, Producer, Co-Executive Producer. Two hour Live National telecast: The Family Network/Odyssey Network. Included 12 performances and 17 awards.


** Safe Step Walk in Tubs ** Director, Producer. Multiple DMA markets monthly. Writing/filming/editing over 100 spots monthly.

** The Nashville Symphony ** Director, Producer. Series of eight 30 second spots for the symphonies Education in the Schools campaign.

** EMI Gospel ** Director, Producer. Series of five 30 second spots for WOW Gospel.

** Tribute: Grand Ole Opry Stars of the Fifties ** Director, Co-Producer. Series of three 30 minute infomercials with supporting 120, 60, and 30 second spots. National broadcast. Also Produced 12 sixty minute volumes for sales distribution.

** Snapper ** Director. Series of 7 National radio commercials.

** Captain Victory/Access Med Plus ** Director, Co-Producer. Series of three (120, 60 & 30 second) fully 3-D animated commercials utilizing characters designed for children's welfare messages.

** GERSHWIN : HERE TO STAY ** Producer, Director, Editor. In the fall of 2010, this live symphonic event was the first time in history that the Library of Congress and the Gershwin family estate opened their collective libraries to an outside production company. The three night engagement with Kevin Cole, Sylvia McNair and Lari White performing with the Nashville Symphony received standing ovations nightly. Swope created an entire visual program around the timeless classic music of George and Ira Gershwin and produced the event.

** Andrea Bocelli ** 2009 concert tours in June and December. Live Director for all programs including The Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Garden.

** Annual Bowtie Awards ** Live awards program held annually in Nashville recognizing business contributions to all the cultural arts. Producer/Director.

** Music City Corporate Band Challenge ** 13 “company built” bands compete for a chance to play on the CMA Music Festival stage. Producer/Director.

** Project Restore : An Evening for Restoration ** 28 Grammy winning artists from various musical genres joined forces on the same stage to raise needed funds for the Tsunami relief effort in Asia. Exec Producer, Producer, Director.

** Tim McGraw 2003 US Tour ** Live concert video presentation. Editor.

** The Church of God in Christ (COGIC) ** Annual Convocation/Memphis. Director, Co-Producer. 2001 through 2008.

** NFL/Atlanta Falcons ** Atlanta Fulton County Stadium / The Georgia Dome. Entertainment Director. All Pre-game and Halftime activities. 1989-1992.

** Sugar Bowl ** The Super Dome, New Orleans, Louisiana. Co-Producer, choreographer. All Pregame and Halftime activities. 1985-1989.

** Gator Bowl ** The Gator Bowl Stadium, Jacksonville, Florida. Co-Producer, choreographer. All Pre-game and Halftime activities. 1985-1989.
