Susan Bowman, Sr. Producer — Sunrise Entertainment

Susan Bowman is an entertainment industry professional with hands on working knowledge of the industry, from technical to creative to business.  Her career experiences range from live theatre, concerts and special events to corporate video, feature film, television and commercials.

Highly sought after by industry professionals, Bowman recently closed the award-winning production company she co-owned and operated for almost ten years. She has spent her time since then building on her extensive experience producing film and television and developing projects. As part of the producing team for Sunrise Entertainment, she won an Emmy Award for the opening gala live broadcast of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, ONR SYMPHONY PLACE. Most recently she has been producing a documentary entitled SACRED JOURNEY, revealing the journey of the Fisk Jubilee Singers® on their history making first ever trip to the African continent. She also produced STING: THE MOMENT OF TRUTH, the story of the famous WWF wrestler Steve Borden, aka Sting, a highly successful release direct to DVD.  She was also part of the team that produced four projects for the Magic Johnson Foundation.

For almost ten years, Bowman helmed the highly successful Nashville production company, The Collective, LLC. During that time, her work included producing award-winning music videos for such artists as Alan Jackson, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Collin Raye, Kathy Mattea, Pam Tillis and The Mavericks, as well as national and regional commercials. On the motion picture and television front, she produced the short film noir 50 ODD DOLLARS, co-produced the IMAX film entitled OUR COUNTRY; produced the CMT COUNTDOWN 2000 television special; and Executive Produced two documentaries that are still shown today in the Country Music Hall of Fame, STAR EXPERIENCE and THIS MOMENT IN COUNTRY. In addition, she served as Executive Producer for numerous music videos and commercials for the directors represented by The Collective LLC.

She also helmed the group’s Canadian company, Collective Films Canada Inc., which co-produced the award-winning “Stampede!” at the Calgary Stampede (which won a coveted Canadian Gemini Award), the Canadian Country Music Awards 2000 and Project Discovery, along with numerous music videos for Canadian Country Music Television.

Prior to the formation of The Collective, she was a freelance producer with the highly acclaimed production company, High Five Entertainment. She also worked extensively in the commercial and corporate genres as an independent producer and production manager with clients including McDonald’s, DuPont, NTW, Saturn Corporation, J. Walter Thompson and Saatchi & Saatchi.  She also served as Unit Production Manager for the HBO production, THE EXPERT.

Bowman began her career in live entertainment as a lighting designer and production stage manager, working in theatre. Productions include WEST SIDE STORY, DAMN YANKEES, 42ND STREET and TOLLER CRANSTON’S ICE EXPERIENCE. She went on develop production experience as a producer, production manager and talent coordinator, producing special events such as BUDWEISER CANOE RACES and BEAT STREET/WEA BREAKDANCE COMPETITION and was part of the Ceremonies Division of the 1984 OLYMPIC CEREMONIES.

As the Entertainment Manager and Talent Buyer for Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California, Bowman produced the entertainment each season for six years, including live concerts and special events featuring such diverse artists as Eurythmics, INXS, Van Halen, James Brown, The Pointer Sisters, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Dick Clark, REM and the Chinese Acrobats of Beijing. Additional highlights of each season’s entertainment also included the season-long fireworks spectacular, FIRESPELL, created by Bowman, along with musical reviews, multi-media shows, ski and diving shows, animal shows and street entertainers. 

Bowman was also responsible for selling Magic Mountain as a prime location site for motion picture and television productions, negotiating terms and acting as the park’s supervising representative during filming. Productions included THIS IS SPINAL TAP, NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VACATION, THE A TEAM, SIMON AND SIMON, WONDER WOMAN, THAT’S INCREDIBLE, THE KINGSTON TRIO REUNION and CIRCUS OF THE STARS.

Bowman is a member of the Nashville Chapter of The Recording Academy where she served on the Board of Governors for four years. She is also an active member of the Country Music Association, the Academy of Country Music and Leadership Music. She is founding member of FilmNashville and currently serves as Vice President/President Elect. She is listed in the Who’s Who of Female Executives and the Manchester Who’s Who of Executives and Professionals.
